Passion for Care

Here at The Elms, what sets us apart is the caring environment that we’ve developed and nurtured over the years.  It starts with a simple philosophy…  We believe that happy staff equals happy residents.

We have been fortunate to attract and retain an extremely committed group of people who are genuinely passionate about caring for the elderly.  Together, they work as a strong, close-knit team and demand high standards of themselves and of one another.

What does outstanding care mean to me?

For me, outstanding care should be the norm not the exception.  It is ensuring our residents live in a clean and safe environment, but most importantly... that they're happy.

Why do I enjoy working at The Elms?

The time I spend with the residents is always pretty special and I like to ensure the care I give is always to a high standard.  I've worked in many care homes but here the atmosphere amongst the team is particularly fun and friendly.

How have I made a difference in a resident's life?

I suppose by always giving residents the time and effort to make sure they're happy and comfortable.  I serve as The Elms' coordinator for providing end-of-life care in meeting the Gold Standards Framework.  From all the feedback we get from families at what can be a very difficult and emotional time, I'm proud to say that we always go above and beyond expectations.

What makes The Elms so special?

Because it is a small home, we have more time to spend with residents which gives it more of a friendly, family feel.  Also, being part of a small team helps create an atmosphere that is fun and more relaxed and I think the residents can feel that.

It is providing the correct care to the high standard that specifically meets that individuals needs.  It's about ensuring a high quality life for residents and following the correct procedures to maintain those high standards.

Why do I enjoy working at The Elms?

I have to say the team of staff is excellent.  We all work hard to provide the best care possible.  More importantly for me though are the residents.  I get to know everyone individually and their wonderful personalities.

How have I made a difference in a resident's life?

I suppose I do it every day in lots of small ways.  By meeting their needs and providing care I help make their life that little bit easier.  I really like to see them smiling and laughing.  Making someone happy is really special.

What makes The Elms so special?

Don't tell the boss but working at The Elms doesn't feel like work because it feels more like a home.  The atmosphere is always cheerful and positive.  And the management are really committed to making sure all we provide is outstanding care.

To provide care to the highest standard and this includes all aspects of personal care but also mental health and overall wellbeing.

Why do I enjoy working at The Elms?

There is always a lot of fun and laughter within the home amongst both the residents and the staff.  How can you not enjoy that?!

How have you made a difference in a resident's life?

I've been responsible for coordinating all the activities at The Elms.  We have lots of music, lots of exercise, interest clubs and monthly outings.  It's great to see the residents engaged and enjoying themselves.

What makes The Elms so special?

I think because it's a smaller home we have a close-knit team which makes The Elms a 'home from home'.

What does outstanding care mean to me?

To me it means treating residents as individuals.  Everyone is different after all.  And to give them the best care and attention as required.

Why do I enjoy working at The Elms?

I've worked here for more than 10 years now and I have to say it is because of the warm and friendly atmosphere.

How have I made a difference in residents' lives?

I'd like to think it is by just being there spending time with them and listening to their stories.  I try to be helpful as much as required.  We have lots of activities and events taking place so I just join in with everyone and have a laugh!

What makes The Elms so special?

It has a warm and airy atmosphere that is hard to describe really.  The staff all work together as a team and we are lucky to have a manager who spends time listening to any problems and puts them right to the best of their ability.
